Unable to upload photos from gallery, with error "File Not Found"

Summary: I couldn't upload photos on the app, an error saying "File Not Found" pops up after tapping "send"

How to reproduce issue: attempt to upload a photo on the app, with both the Title and Description filled in.

Device and Android version: Huawei Honor 9 Lite, Android Version EMUI 8.0.0 Oreo (Stock version)

Commons app version: 2.8.5, Google Play download

I was using Traditional Chinese so I don't know of the exact translation, but that's just about what it said.

Okay, thats in res/values-zh-rTW/strings.xml, which can only be called from UploadService.java#L216.

Does this happen 100% of the time? If not, it may be related to #1485

Yes, with/without VPN (to eliminate the possibility of censorship), WiFi or mobile network, before and after uninstalling and reinstalling.

Hmmm, that's bizzare.

Can you double check the app has the Storage permission - it should ask for it if it doesn't but that could be it.

Does it happen both with photos you take from the camera and ones from the gallery? What gallery app do you use? What version of the app are you using (see the About page)

It does have the Storage permission.

I tried using the camera — and lo and behold — it worked. The ones from the gallery don't though — I've tried both the default Huawei Gallery app and Google Photos.

I'm using version 2.8.5.

Bizarre idea, but could you try uploading without a description?

Also, when it fails does it get added at the top of home as "Queued"?

Sorry, the logging system from versions before 2.8.6 is a bit wonky.

@StoppedGalaxy could you please:

• Opt in to beta testing at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/fr.free.nrw.commons
• Update to v2.8.6
• Go to Settings > Send log file
• Tap "Send log file", restart your app
• Perform an upload that fails
• Tap "Send log file" again
• Send us the logs via email

@domdomegg: Uploading without a description yields identical results. And yes, it appears as "queued" first before eventually appearing as "failed".
