Need to update Legalcode link translation strings (from Deeds) in Transifex

Is this a Transifex issue or a bug in the code?

I think this is an error in Transifex. If you look at say, the French or English versions, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/nl/deed.fr or https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/nl/deed -- you'll notice the link is to legalcode, not legalcode.nl

That wasn't exactly my request, we need a different string for the legalcode name in cases where it's different.

So what did you do? I don't believe you have the permissions to add a new string to Transifex, I think @RCEurope1 or I have to do that.

In #47 I said: "I think we'll need to add a new string to Transifex for the legalcode URI? Any idea on how to proceed with this?"

I am language coordinator for the Dutch language area, I have access to the Dutch strings in transifex. @RCEurope1 does not.

The opening post in that ticket stated the changed URL to legalcode.nl and asked for verification of that issue. Now it appears that this brought about issues in other parts of the license links.

I've now reverted the change so these link to /legalcode instead of legalcode.nl However this will cause usabilities issues I've raised in the 4.0 licenses.

@RCEurope1 is an admin of the CC Transifex account, like me.

The goal of #47 was to add a new string to the Transifex account that'll let us use different legalcode URIs in 4.0 and newer versions of the deed. We haven't done that yet. I will try and figure that out later today.

This is part of the more general problem caused by the fact that the change from localisation in 3.0 to translation in 4.0 is not represented in the translation strings for the deeds that we use to link to the legalcode. I believe we didn't want to change the deed language, which means we cannot currently fix this with different translation strings. It will require a modification to either the Python code (to correct the links on the fly as they are served) or the Apache Web Server config (to redirect the links on the fly when they are requested). Neither is a major task but I need to get it right and there are enough different cases to handle (localisations with multiple languages, localisations with no matching translation in 4.0, etc.) that I will have to be careful with the implementation. I will talk to Legal then get back later today with a plan.

I had to speak to Legal in two stages. :-)

The steps we will be following are:

1. We are gathering together the issue reports and documentation we have built up around this family of problems.
2. We will then produce a canonical document describing how the urls and links under /licenses/ are meant to work.
3. I will then modify the Python code to ensure that the urls and links behave as intended.

We are in crunch on another project but are gathering documentation this week and will move on to stage 2 next week.

I ran a 404 checker on .org/licenses/ domain and found 128 links that fall into this family of issues:

Some of these are not caused by this issue but by having bad links elsewhere on creativecommons.org like https://creativecommons.org/licenses/cc/by/4.0 which appears on https://creativecommons.org/2017/01/23/german-4-0/ (license under image).

Others show probably other legacy issues like https://creativecommons.org/licenses/publicdomain/legalcode.nl from https://creativecommons.org/licenses/publicdomain/deed.nl

It does indicate that this issue has a substantial impact on the links to legalcodes.
