Create smaller "icon" files

Problem

scripts/genicons.py creates PNGs, which result in over 200 MiB of files.

Description

One or more of the following options:

• Optimize PNG generation (spot testing indicates a reduction of ~50% should be possible)
• Extend scripts/genicons.py to also output SVGs.
• Extend to output another broadly supported format that is also smaller

Should a separate file be made under scripts or should it be extended in the same file and the output should be passed into the same folder www/i?

• If you feel like the existing script can be cleanly extended, please feel free to do so.
• Yes, I think outputting to the same www/i folder makes sense

Hello @TimidRobot @kgodey, I would like to work on this issue if it's still open for contribution. I have found a few libraries to help in the conversion of PNG to SVG and other formats, and would like to attempt creating license icons in reduced size. Could you kindly assign the issue to me if it is open? Thanks!

Extremely sorry for reverting back so soon with an error but I am not at all able to test my code. Could someone please help me with the setup of the codebase? I have installed the dependencies on my system according to the docs but somehow the modules are shown to be not found while running the genicons.py file. Following are the error logs:

python3-gi-cairo is already the newest version (3.20.0-0ubuntu1).

On running genicons.py :

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cairo'

A simialar error log appears for the module gi as well. I have tried to read from many sources about how to resolve the issue but none of them seems to work. pip installing pycairo or pygobject neither helped as they did not install due to PEP 517 error. I am done with writing my code but cannot run the files as the setup has not been possible. I have tried on an Ubuntu 16 and MacOS Mojave but the same error pops up in both systems.

It would be great help if someone could please help me through the setup.
