how to add kernel modules to nfsroot/dracut initramfs?

It is no longer clear how to add specific kernel modules into the image.

Dracut by default includes kernel modules for various boot scenarios.
For network booting, this results in a fairly large initramfs, and on clusters 
since we are booting many nodes concurrently, this is a big waste.  Therefore 
nfsroot short circuits dracut in the following way:

The nfsroot package includes /etc/dracut.conf.d/xnfsroot.conf:

   dracutmodules="nfs network base xnfsroot"

This overrides the default 'dracutmodules' setting.

To restore the kernel-modules dracut module, edit /etc/dracut.conf and add the 
line:

   dracutmodules+=" kernel-modules"

then run nfsroot-rebuild chrooted in the image.

N.B. For some reason, this did not work:

   add_dracutmodules+="kernel-modules"

I was not able to get specific modules added using,e.g.

  drivers+=" scsi_transport_sas"

or

  add_drivers+=" scsi_transport_sas"

This is with:

  dracut-004-33.el6_0.noarch
  dracut-network-004-33.el6_0.noarch
  dracut-kernel-004-33.el6_0.noarch

Checking with

  zcat boot/initramfs-2.6.32-131.2.1.1chaos.ch5.x86_64.img | cpio -itv|grep scsi_transport_sas
