Since upgrade to version django-debug-toolbar==1.0 it breaks collectstatic

Can you try the explicit setup described in the documentation and see if it fixes your problem?

Considering the cascade of imports shown in the traceback, you're squarely hitting the case that the following warning in the docs adresses:

"The automatic setup imports your project’s URLconf in order to add the Debug Toolbar’s URLs. This may trigger circular imports when the URLconf imports views that import models. If you’re hitting an ImportError, follow the explicit setup instructions."

However, you end up with:

"django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: The included urlconf newfies_dialer.urls doesn't have any patterns in it."

which is another symptom of a circular import in a Django project.

If the explicit setup fixes your problem, we should simply adjust the docs to mention ImproperlyConfigured too.
