what's the purpose of options.reverse ?

okay, I did some tests and I understand now.

you apply the mask from left to right (reverse:false) or from right to left (reverse:true).

so now, I have a little trouble with this. I explain with an example:

let's say I do a myElem.mask("000000.00") and I want to enter 10.55
the dot (.) I type after 10 won't be taken, at least not before I type the 6 digits I placed in the mask.

so I tried with the reverse on and voilà, it works.

But if I want to enter 200 rather than 10.55......
and I'll get 2.00.

Why not letting the user place the dot then apply the mask ?

So I can let my users either enter or not cents after the amount.
Or do I have to make a callback to change the mask on the fly upon keypress ?

Well, in Brazil we have some fields that the mask have to be filled on a
reversed way, like a money field.

You specify the mask like this "000.000.000,00" but when you type in this
field the first mask character that will appear its the "," and not the "."

So, you think it would be nice if the plugin let the user type mask digits too, right?
I'm planning to do this change very soo, no worries :)
It solve your problem, right?

the only problem I have right now is with the decimals, the cents.

let say I have this mask "0000.00" (reverse true) to allow something
like 1000.10, 1000 Reals and 10 cents.
I will type in the field "1" "0" "0" "0" "." "1" "0"
it will work perfectly. good.
but what if my money amount is 200 Reals ? No cent at all.
let's try:
I'll type in the field "2" "0" "0"
and I got "2.00"
not what I want.

so as long as the user don't type the decimal separator, place the
digits in the integer part of the number.
when the decimal separator is typed, all digits will go in the decimal part.

I hope I explain myself a bit better :)

I'm focused on the money mask but I just realized there's a similar problem with the date mask.
with a mask like "00/00/0000", you have to type 01 for the first day of the month while the users may type 1/1/2012.
an idea could be to use the digit in the mask as a default value to have 01/01/2012 when the user typed 1/1/2012

me it seems right...

Maybe we are having a culture problem. In your case, how do you think it

If you expect 200USD you have to type the entire number, including de
decimals digits and the mask should be: 000.000.000,00 and you have to type
20000 and you will get the 200,00 that you expected, right?

what I mean with a mask like "000.00" is:

• that I want only digits
• that I want only 3 digits max before the dot "."
• that I want only 2 digits max after the dot "."
• that every part is optional

as a regex, it would be

[0-9]{0,3} .? [0-9]{0,2}

so when entered
"2" -> 2
"200" -> 200
"2.2" ->2.2

the idea is not to have to type every char to fill the mask.

Well @kktos, every mask I ever used forces you to type, using your exemple, "20000" to get "200,00".

For dates, what is the point letting user type eg "1/2/2012"? It isn't better (to form validation, conversion from/to database, and more...) to have all inputs in the same pattern eg "01/02/2012"?

IMO, the "0" key on the numeric keyboard is bigger enough to the users hit it and it's worthless to implement such a complex modification. But that's only my .02 ;)

Hi Igor, I just saw you've made adjustements to the plugin so now user can explicitly inform caret characters, ',' or '.'.

I didn't figure out how to use it. On my demo the caret characters are still ignored.

Is there any documentation enlightening how to allow users to input '.' or ','?
