    fixing td sizes

    Hi,

    I've got a table which has a set of links down the first column, each
    of which is in their own <TD>...</TD>. In the second column, I have
    one td which spans down the side of the links which contains the main
    text on the page.

    Something like this:

    |------------------------------|
    |link 1 |Main text in the table|
    |-------| . |
    |link 2 | . |
    |-------| . |
    |link 3 | |
    |-------| |
    |link 4 | |
    |-------| |

    Hi, Robin.

    Put your links in separate table. And insert this table in the cell.

    Andrew.

      Very bad. It's better to use an unordered list for that.

      >In the second column, I have

      <table><tr>
      <td id="nav">
      <ul>
      <li><a href="...">...</a></li>
      <li><a href="...">...</a></li>
      ....
      </ul>
      </td><td id="content">
      ....
      </td>
      </tr></table>

      Then style the navigation list with CSS:

      #nav ul {margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style-type: none; ...}

      It's also possible to do that without using tables (with an absolutely
      positioned or floated navigation list).

        It just so happens that I knocked up something like that recently. It
        uses CSS and is simpler than using tables:

          Thanks very much to all who responded! I'm in the process of making
          the switch to using CSS, and have successfully sorted it out.
          Interesting to see other approaches to the problem.

          Many thanks!

          Rob.
