For a table cell I want to have a padding of 3 pixel between the cell border and the text inside.
How do I specify this attribute in a <TD> resp. css ?

'cellpadding' is a table, not a cell attribute, so why not just start a new
1x1 table in the cell and set the padding to 3px;
<td>
<table cellpadding="3" >
<tr><td>3px padded cell</td></tr>
</table>
</td>

Becuase its dumb.
My full answer can be found as a reply to one of your multiposts.

Then you have a poor quality news reader.
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106
OK, very poor.
I've no idea how to make OE look at Message IDs, but you can use the
Advanced Search feature at http://groups.google.com/ to locate messages by
message id if OE is totally incapable.

It works OK for me and 99 % of newsreaders, your reply is the first that did
not...
Come off your island and work on your communication skills. Would it not
have been easier if you had just cut&pasted your original reply to a
newsgroup that I am not subscribed to here, instead of looking up what
browser I use?

I'm not the one who didn't know which newsgroup he was posting in.

No, because you would have missed the other replies to your post.

Its not a browser, and needed less effort on my part anyway.

Odd for a web author to blame the user's equipment. Come on,
what's the workaround?

There ya go. Seems to me if "95%" (heh) of users are on IE, the
same number are using OE. Just as we code around the faults of
IE, we ought to work around the faults of OE as well, not gripe
about it to the user.

The blame was for multi-posting, which everyone participating in
usenet should know not to do.
