Mail to form help

I'm an HTML novice and have a "mail to" form on my site where users fill in
info and send it to the email address I specify.

After looking into it, it's obvious this isn't the way to go, as most of the
time the info doesn't even get to me.

Could someone just point me in the right direction please.....I've just read
about some software (Form let?) and other programs....... is this what I
should be looking at?

OR is there any software that will automatically convert my HTML mail to
form into something universally accepted?

THANKS very much.

You should be using a server-side solution.

Iuse formmail from scriptarchive.c om. You need to be on a server
that supports CGI/Perl (nearly all do). The readme is easy to
follow. Even I got it set up right, and I know nothing about
scripting.

And you know the problems with scripts from Matt's Script Archive,
right? The information is on his site.

The question is, why didn't you share it with the op? Or tell him or
her about the alternative, better solution?

something....an d it mentioned this name?

What is the word on this?....and back to my original question......t hanks
for the help......I'll take a look at this
"Formmail" (or not?)

Since you top posted, and didn't trim the quote, and didn't insert
your reply in the appropriate place, I don't know which link you "just
went to."

Spammers search the web looking for Matt's Script Archive (MSA)
formmail and try to exploit it. That's probably what your host warned
you about.

> and back to my original question......

Did you go to the nms link? If not, do so.

> I'll take a look at this "Formmail" (or not?)

Which formmail? There is one at MSA, one at NMS. Use the one NMS. Just
so there's no confusion, here's the link again.

It's my understanding that the security issues are limited to
outside users hijacking the script for their own purposes, this
is well explained in his Readme for the script. So, I've taken
due precautions - including renaming the script, and setting the
recipients and the hosts explicitly in the script. No one's going
to rewrite my script, unless they're a skilled hacker (in which
case it really doesn't matter what I use, hmm?). I've followed
all the safeguards he's given in the Readme. I'm led to believe
that I've taken sufficient precautions.

In fact, I've attempted to hijack my own script, and it reliably
fails to work. My experience is this - one server I use has this
installed in their bin, and they have had no issues. TAnother
server, the one I tried hijacking with the first server, the CGI
shuts down when that attempt is made.

I think if you follow every safeguard, the only person who's
going to break in and use it has enough skill to hijack any
script I put up. Of course, if you know different, I'd like to
know.

Odd that I never found this page when visiting his site. I can
see a link now, but more on that soon...

Being that I was unaware of the page, it would be akin to me
telling him how to make a foozbar, when I don't even know what a
foozbar is.

On searching for this script, I fount the page
http://www.scriptarchive.com/formmail.html and on this page
here's the entirety of text referring to what you're admonishing
me about.

"nms Formmail
The following is a drop-in replacement for FormMail that has been
developed by a project called nms. We have also supplied info
about their goals and modifications. "

Doesn't really attract the eye, or suggest it might be better to
go there, does it?

Anyway, I've offered my opinion, you've offered yours. Each
individual has to make their choice. If I ever have a problem,
I'll be the first to say I was wrong to trust the script I'm
using.

From what I hear, the version of NMS FormMail that Matt's Script Archive
offers is rather outdated.

Best to get the newest version from the NMS site itself.
