    Wrap attribute

    <textarea name="applicati on" cols="50" rows="12" wrap="virtual"
    class="textarea "></textarea>

Apparently "wrap" is deprecated or not allowed for html 4.01, any
suggestions on what I should use instead?

It's not deprecated, it's not even standardised! It looks like a
microsoft, or maybe netscape, proprietry presentational attribute which
means it should never be used. Try the CSS 'white-space' property. I
have no idea what wrap="virtual" is supposed to mean, so I can't tell
    you which value to use.

Microsoft has the wrap attribute, but the valid values are "soft",
"hard", and "off". "Virtual" isn't among them. With "soft" and "hard",
text wraps at the right side of the textbox; with "hard", the line
breaks created by wrapping are actually embedded in the data submitted
      with the form.

Yes, I knew about hard and soft values. The WHAT-WG has introduced
the wrap attribute with those values in Web Forms 2 [1]. wrap="off"
seems very presentational, which is probably why it wasn't included in
the draft. "off" would be equivalent to 'white-space: nowrap;'

Hard and Soft are definately questionable, and I will be bringing
those points up in the WHAT-WG list when I've had the opportunity to get
through the whole draft spec. I'd never even heard of virtual, and I
can't even begin to understand where it came from or what it means,
which is what I meant with I said I had no idea about it.

Wrap was actually invented by Netscape and later copied by MS. Both
companies were inconsistent in their description of the possible
values, with documentation not matching implementation. Virtual should
          act the same as soft.
