Scott retires after more than 34 years of service

Brig. Gen. Steven T. Scott retires from the United States Army after more than 34 years of service at a ceremony held June 2, 2016, at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond, Virginia. Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, presented Scott with the Legion of Merit, a U. S. flag commemorating his retirement and his wife Colleen with a certificate of appreciation for her support. Command Sgt. Maj. Henry A. Motley cased Scott's general officer flag.

Scott's previous assignments include Joint Force Headquarter-Virginia director of plans and policy analysis, commander of 91st Troop Command, operations officer for the 29th Infantry Division and commander of 1st Battalion, 246th Field Artillery Regiment. Scott deployed to Kosovo from November 2006 to November 2007 as the deputy commander for civil-military operations for Task Force Falcon, Kosovo Force 8, and he also commanded 1st Battalion, 246th Field Artillery Regiment during the unit’s federal mobilization for Operation Noble Eagle.

Scott was commissioned as a distinguished military graduate into the field artillery in 1982. After commissioning, he served on active duty in the U. S. Army with 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea and the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.

He holds Masters Degrees in Education Administration from the University of South Carolina and in Strategic Studies from the U. S. Army War College.

Scott is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

His military awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal w/ 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Commendation Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Kosovo Campaign Medal; NATO Medal; Korean Defense Service Ribbon, Virginia Bronze Star Medal, Maryland Meritorious Service Medal and the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
