229th BEB, R&R Soldiers compete for Region II Best Warrior title - May 17-20, 2022
Staff Sgt. Austin Sturtz and Spc. Adam Marcus represent the Virginia Army National Guard during the Army National Guard Region II Best Warrior Competition May 17-20, 2022, at Camp Dawson, West Virginia. Sturtz, assigned to the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, and Marcus, assigned to the Fredericksburg-based 229th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, were named the Virginia Army National Guard’s Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year at the state-level competition in April 2022. The pair was challenged by multiple events including a stress, shoot, weapons knowledge, a ruck march, land navigation, warrior tasks and an obstacle course. Soldiers from the West Virginia and Pennsylvania National Guards eventually won Region II Soldier and NCO of the Year. For additional photos, visit ngpa.us/19825.
