229th BEB, R&R Soldiers compete for Region II Best Warrior title - May 17-20, 2022

Staff Sgt. Austin Sturtz and Spc. Adam Marcus represent the Virginia Army National Guard during the Army National Guard Region II Best Warrior Competition May 17-20, 2022, at Camp Dawson, West Virginia. Sturtz, assigned to the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, and Marcus, assigned to the Fredericksburg-based 229th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, were named the Virginia Army National Guard’s Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year at the state-level competition in April 2022. The pair was challenged by multiple events including a stress, shoot, weapons knowledge, a ruck march, land navigation, warrior tasks and an obstacle course.
