Historic photos show parts of the military career of Col. Van T. Barfoot, who received the Media of Honor for his actions fighting German tanks and soldiers in Italy during World War II. He went on to serve in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, became a distinguished aviator, and eventually served as the Senior Army Advisor to the Virginia National Guard until his retirement in 1974.
