Verifying System Requirements

In this article, we cover the operating system requirements for installing this version of Kinetic.

For the full description of the required Windows and SQL features and tools, refer to Kinetic
Installation Guide. Likewise, for the full description of the required client pre-requisites, review the
Kinetic Systems Requirement Guide.

1. For your workstation, verify you have the following installed:

l Windows 10 x86 / x64 Intel Architecture
2. For your server, verify that you have one of the following Microsoft Technology Stacks installed.
Note that the stack must be the exact combination of Windows Operating System and
Microsoft SQL Server.
l Window Server 2016 with SQL Server 2017

l Windows Server 2019 with SQL Server 2017 or 2019

l Windows Server 2022 with SQL Server 2019 or 2022

Windows 2012 R2 is no longer supported and will be removed as an option in a

future release. If you are still running this version, you will need to manually remove
IIS 10 to continue running Windows 2012 R2. This is a temporary solution. You
should upgrade your system to one of the current versions.

For your SQL Server, Kinetic supports either the runtime, Standard or Enterprise
versions. The SQL Server Express editions are not supported due to constraints on
the memory, CPU, and database size.

Certifying a platform for Kinetic is an involved task due to the amount of

environment testing required. Because of this, not every combination of hardware,
Windows operating system, and SQL Server version is certified or approved to
successfully run Kinetic. For example, Kinetic is certified with SQL Server 2019 only
if it is matched with Windows Server 2019; but it is not certified with SQL Server
2019 when it is matched with Windows 2022.

3. Verify that .NET Framework 4.8 or later is installed. You can download this framework from:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net48

4. For your server, verify you have the latest version of ASP.NET Core Runtime 8.0 (Hosting
Bundle) and .NET 8.0 SDK installed. You can find them in the Microsoft download center:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0.

5. Either install SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2017 with SQL Server 2017, SSRS 2019
with SQL Server 2019, or SSRS 2022 with SQL Server 2022. Install in Native Mode to print
standard reports.

6. For the Administration Console, verify that .NET 8.0 SDK is installed in any machine where the
Data Model is regenerated. If it is not installed, an Error Generating the Data Model error
message displays when the Data Model is regenerated.
7. If you frequently run BPM directives that use custom code, we recommend you also install .NET
8.0 SDK on client installations. This makes sure the clients can validate the BPM custom code
using the same environment as the server.
8. If you use Microsoft SharePoint for attachments, note that Kinetic supports SharePoint 2019 and
later.

Downloading Smart Client for Purchased

Environments
To access a cloud-based Kinetic environment using a traditional desktop experience, download and
install the Kinetic Smart Client on a user's workstation.

In this article, we cover how to download the Kinetic Smart Client and the corresponding desktop
shortcut icons to an individual workstation.

1. Verify you have a Site ID. It is usually provided when you purchase Kinetic.
2. Navigate to https://download.epicorsaas.com/.

3. In the Site ID field, enter the site ID number provided by Epicor.

4. In the Choose your environment section, select the environments you want to access. The Live
and Pilot environments are selected by default. If applicable, you can also select the Education,

the Third (additional), and an ---SSL environment to download.

The environments that have the SSL suffix in their names (for example, PILOTSSL)
do not support Epicor Identity Provider authentication using product sign-on
instead. We recommend to use them for shared add-ons like Shop Floor DC and
Handheld if you want to simplify the logon process.

5. If you have more than one additional environment and want to download all Kinetic
environments you have purchased, expand the Advanced Options section and select the
Download all available environments (override) check box.

6. To download the desktop shortcut icons used to access the add-on products you purchased, in
the Choose your optional desktop shortcut icons section, select the additional icons you want
to install. For example, if you select the CRM option, after you install the client, you will get an
additional icon for each selected environment that would open the CRM-only version of Kinetic.

This section displays the available Kinetic add-ons even if you have not purchased
them. If you select a non-purchased add-on, you will not be able to run it after the
installation.

7. By default, when you run the installer, the system creates the Kinetic file structure under
C:\Epicor. If you want the installer to place the files into another folder, enter the path to this
folder in the Custom Install Folder field within the Advanced Options section. For example,
enter C:\Kinetic.

Administrators can also specify a UNC path to a shared location to install the client
centrally. Note that this approach requires additional configuration. Refer to the
Kinetic Guide for Cloud Deployments in Kinetic Help and Support Center for the
details.

8. Select the Get Client Installer button. Wait while your browser downloads the installer file. The
downloaded installer file may look similar to the following:

Besides the short names of the environments and the date of download, the
installer name includes the Globally Unique Identifier (GUID). DO NOT delete this
identifier from the file name. It is required for verifying the authenticode certificate
of the installer.

You can share the installer file with other users within your organization for them to install the
clients for the selected environments and add-ons on their local machines.

9. Run the downloaded file to install the client. When the installation process finishes, the
Installation Summary dialog displays the status. Select Complete.

10. You can find the shortcuts of the selected environments on your Windows desktop.
