Creative Commons in Museums
The Mori Art Museum experimented with using Creative Commons licenses to allow photography of artworks in exhibitions. This began in 2009 with an Ai Weiwei exhibition where audiences enjoyed being able to photograph the works. It required drafting agreements between artists and the museum and providing notices. The attempt received media coverage and the museum has continued using CC licenses since. Other Japanese museums have also found success in allowing photography and increasing engagement through CC.
