INTRODUCTION
In today’s digitalworld, information, knowledge, and creative works such as
images, videos, music, and writings are shared widely across the internet.
While copyright laws protect creators’ rights, they can sometimes restrict the
free use of content for learning, collaboration, and creativity. To solve this issue,
the Creative Commons Licence (CC Licence) was introduced. It provides a
simple and flexible way for creators to decide how others can use their work
while still protecting their ownership rights.
3.
CREATIVE COMMONS LICENCE
ACreative Commons Licence is a type of copyright licence that allows
creators to grant permission for others to use, share, adapt, and build upon
their work legally, under specific conditions chosen by the creator.
TYPES OF CREATIVE COMMONS LICENCE
1. CC BY- Attribution
Others can copy, share, and adapt the work, even for commercial use, but
they must give credit to the creator.
2. CC BY-SA- Attribution -ShareAlike
Others can adapt and use the work, even commercially, but must give credit
and license new works under the same terms.
3. CC BY-ND-Attribution -No Derivatives
Others can reuse the work, including for commercial purposes, but no
modifications or adaptations are allowed. Credit is required.
4. CC BY-NC-Attribution-Noncommercial
Others can copy and adapt the work, but only for non-commercial purposes,
with credit given.
5. CC BY-NC-SA-Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike
Others can adapt the work for non-commercial purposes only, but new works
must carry the same licence and credit the creator.
4.
6. CC BY-NC-ND-Attribution-Noncommercial-No
Derivatives
Themost restrictive licence: others may only download and share with credit,
no modifications and no commercial use.
IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVE COMMONS
LICENCE
• Provides legal protection to creators.
• Promotes knowledge sharing across the globe.
• Encourages collaboration and innovation.
• Balances creator’s rights with public access.
• Widely used in education, research, open-source projects, and media.
5.
CONCLUSION
The Creative CommonsLicence is an essential tool for ensuring that creative
works can be freely shared and reused while respecting the rights of the
creators. It promotes a culture of openness, learning, and innovation, making it
a cornerstone of the digital knowledge-sharing world.
