Five Women on Queenslander Steps
Historical Inquiry Questions Study the clothes the five women are wearing. Use the Wikimedia magnifying glass to highlight the dress designs and motifs. Why do you think this photograph was taken? Where do you think the women might be going? During what era do you think this photograph was taken? Who do you think these women might be? What rules about dress and fashion do you think these women followed? Why do you think the girl is wearing a short dress, while the women are wearing longer dresses? Make a list of the similarities and differences between the clothes worn today and those in the photograph Describe the hairstyles of the four older women.

Ipswich Photo Society What clues help to inform you of the time period when this photo was taken? Look closely. What season do you think this is? How many people are wearing hats? What reasons would hats be worn other than protection from the sun? Did men and women have different or similar hobbies during this period? List as many differences as you can between the cameras in this photo and modern day digital cameras. Can identify the model of early motor-car in the background. Can you spot Bert Roberts? Feedback
Comment by Liam Wyatt on November 17, 2009 at 2:09pm Thanks for this and I can say that from the Wikipedia perspective we're very happy to have these images to be available as this represents Australia's first cultural content donation to Wikimedia. I personally announced this collaboration to the Wikimedia Multimedia Usability meeting in Paris last week and requests such as better reporting metrics (on usage, click-throughs etc.) is definitely on the agenda. Once again, thanks!
