Quarter 1 - Week 1

Reminder: Taking an independent study course is very different from


taking a course in a classroom. Instead of relying on the teacher to tell you to
complete a learning activity or an assignment, you must tell yourself to be
responsible for your learning and for meeting deadlines.

Topic: Introduction to Computer Systems Servicing (NCII)

Concept/Short Input:

Computer Systems Servicing (CSS NCII) is a program that trains student to


install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain a personal computer and its peripherals.
In general, a student is expected to assemble or customize a computer unit,
upgrade software and hardware, and will be able to recondition an old Personal
Computer unit.
Basic knowledge in electronics, networking and electricity are also included
in this program.

What is the difference between Computer Hardware Servicing and Computer


Systems Servicing?

Computer Systems Servicing (CSS NCII) is the upgraded version of Computer


Hardware Servicing (CHS NCII) qualification. During the late CHS, the qualification
was said to be of the NCII level, meaning that in a ranking basis it is the baseline
level. According to some experts in Information and Communication Technology
(ICT), the NCII level for CSS should be NCIV because of its difficulty that even a
professional fail to pass the assessment.
The old CHS competency covered just two (2) modules and the student /
trainee were only expected to perform a couple of tasks to pass the actual
assessment. The assessment includes a question-and-answer portion before
proceeding with the actual hands-on configurations and the same goes for the CSS
NCII exam.
To cope up with the hastened trend of technology advancement, CSS was
introduced, and instead of having just two (2) modules, the CSS NCII competency
has now four (4). It is said that technological advancement is rapidly evolving and
that Filipinos will not be left behind with the global standards in technology.

Why computer services are important?

Technology has been evolving so fast. Movie and gaming industries are using
advance technologies to make their final output / product to surpass our minimum
expectations. E-commerce like online shopping and e-banking are now common.
Even transacting to private and government agencies involved the use of
computers.
With this, your skills (upon gaining the required skills in Computer Systems
Servicing) are very important to address the demand of skilled workers in the ICT
sector. This pandemic, most of us depend on our personal computers and gadgets
to communicate with our love ones and doing the work from home settings. People
will need your service if they will encounter problems with their computers and
gadgets.

What career opportunities awaits you in the ICT industry?

Taking up computer systems servicing will lead you to different work in the
ICT sector in the future.
