Brief Introduction
Computers are grouped or linked using different transmission media like UTP
cable, Fiber Optic, and wireless connection. The primary reason why computers and
other devices are connected is to access shared resources that include files, services,
printers, applications, etc. Physical connection alone does not grant user account to
access shared resources; there must be a user that will manage all network devices,
including computers and cellphones. In a network, one or more users can be created with
varying levels of authority.

Activity Number 1 – “C Phone Pal”.

Directions: In the space below, list down activities that you usually do when using a

Types of Network User

Local User is a user account that Domain User is a user

can log in within a specific device only. account that can log in to a device
that is a part of a network.

User Account Level

Standard User is a user account type with

limited privileges. Commonly, it is not allowed
to make changes in the system (i.e., installing
additional software).

Administrator is a user account that is

authorized to make changes in a device or
domain. It can install software and add or
delete new users.

Correct network and system configuration permit the users to access various
network services, such as file and printer sharing, online gaming, and video conferencing.
However, there are instances wherein you cannot access other resources available in a
network, especially over the internet. It prompts you to sign up or register for an account.
It is also important to note that the “Local user” or the user account in a device, like a
smartphone, laptop, and tablet, is different from “Domain or Authenticated user” in a
network.

In the pictures above, there are two login screens shown by two different devices:
the first is for a laptop, and the other is for a smartphone. Both devices allow domain
users to access network services (second image) provided by different website
