Lesson: Uses of Tools in Computer Systems
Servicing

To complete hardware repairs, it

is important to have a toolkit that
should contain all of the
necessary tools. The CSS tools
are group into four categories.
Four Categories of Tools
1. Electro – Static Discharge ( ESD ) tools
2. Hand tools
3. Cleaning tools
4. Diagnostic tools
Electro-Static Discharge Tools
(ESD)
Are tools used to control discharge of
electrostatic electricity.
Examples of ESD tools.
1. Anti- static wrist strap
2. Anti – static mat
Example of Electro-Static
Discharge Tools (ESD)

Anti-static wrist strap –

Used to prevent ESD
damage to computer
equipment.
Example of Electro-Static
Discharge Tools (ESD)

jumpers, fasteners and other small
parts and prevents them from getting
mixed together.
Example of Cleaning Tool
Brush can be used for
cleaning the computer
Diagnostic Tools
These tools are used to check the condition or status of a
component. The following are examples of diagnostic
tools;
• Multimeter
• Loopback adapter
Examples of Diagnostic Tools
Multimeter – Used to test the
integrity of circuits and the quality of
