Detailed Lesson Plan IN Computer System Servicing Ncii: Subject Matter: COMPUTER NETWORKING

This lesson plan outlines how to teach students to create straight-through network cables. The objectives are to identify computer parts and hardware, explain basic computer functions through an ideal setup. The lesson will begin with an identification activity to review types and parts of computers. Students will then learn the difference between straight-through and crossover cables through discussion and examples. They will create straight-through cables themselves following demonstrated steps, using the 568B color coding standard. Student performance will be evaluated based on safety, workmanship, adherence to procedures, and quality of the finished product. Follow-up assignments include defining and explaining the purpose of rollover cables and network protocols.

LESSON PLAN IN TLE
COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING NCII
I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

1. Identify and differentiate the parts of the computer;

2. Explain basic hardware components of a computer;
3. Illustrate the basic computer functions through an ideal computer set-up

II. Subject matter:

Topic: INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING COMPUTER SYSTEMS
(Types and Parts of a Computer)
Code: TLE_IACSS9-12ICCS-Ia-e-28

Tools/materials/equipment:
 Full System Unit (PC)
 Laptop
 Projector

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s activity Students Activity

A. Preparation
a. Preliminaries
i. Prayer (one student will lead the prayer)
ii. Greetings
Good Morning class. Good morning Ma’am.

iii. Checking of attendance

b. Review

Let us first recall our previous lesson, Do anyone Sir, We discussed the standard safety procedures
remembered what we discussed last meeting? when handling a computer.

Very Good! And what are these safety

procedures?

Okay very good!

c. Motivation

GUESS THE DEVICE!

Before we start, let us try to identify the basic
types, parts, and equipment of computer system.
Name the following by filling in the missing
letters.
d. Unlocking difficulties
 568A & 568B
 Ethernet cable
B. Lesson Proper
a. Discussion
Class what did you noticed about our activity a
while ago? Ma’am arrangement of color coding in Straight
through cable and cross over cable.
Very Good! We’ve already finished creating cross
over cable, right? Yes ma’am

And what do you think is our topic for today?

ma’am creating straight through cable.
Very good! Do you have any idea about straight
through cable?
(student will answer)
Very good! Straight through cable are very much
like to cross over cable, Crossover cable are
commonly used to connect same devices directly,
while straight through cable used to connect
unlike devices. Can you give some examples of
connecting devices that use straight through
cable?
Ma’am in connecting computer to hub we use
straight through cable.
Very good! What else?
Ma’am PC to switch
Switch to router
Very Good! Straight through cable is primarily
used in connecting two unlike devices.

Now that you already know what is straight

through cable and the purpose of this. Let’s
proceed on the procedure in creating straight
through cable.

b. Application
Each group will read the procedure in creating
straight through cable. While the teacher
demonstrating each step the students per group
will follow.
(student per group will read)
Direction: Students will create straight through
cable using 568B color coding arrangement, by (provided with the necessary tools and materials.
following the steps in creating Straight through Students will perform actual procedure in creating
cable. Straight through cable.)

1. Strip off suitable length of the cable

sheath.
2. Sort wires by insulation colors.
3. Align the colored wires according to the
specific order.
4. Trim all the wires to the same length.
5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug.
6. Maintain wire order, left to right, with
RJ45 tab facing downward.
7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimping
tool.
8. Verify the order of the wires is correct
making good contact with the metal
contacts in the RJ45 plug.
9. Repeat all the steps in creating the other
c. Generalization end of the cable.

Always take into considerations that before using

the cable in connecting actual devices. It is
suggested that you must use a LAN tester first to
check the functionality of the cable.

IV. Evaluation
Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.
(the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.)

CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING

Safety procedures 15%
Adherence to the procedures 30%

Workmanship 15%
Quality of product 40%
TOTAL: 100%

V. Assignment:
A. Follow-up Assignment.
1. What is roll over cable?
2. Identify the function of a roll over cable.
B. Advanced Assignment.
1. What are internet protocols?
2. Identify and describe the different protocols used in networks and internet.
