Lesson Terminating and Connecting

Electrical Wiring and Electronic
5 Circuit
A beginner needs to learn special hand tools and equipment to deal with electronic
and electrical circuits. In attaching, repairing, protecting and troubleshooting electronic
circuits, each of these handheld tools and equipment does one or more specific tasks.
It is easier for a beginner to first learn how to use these hand tools by doing so.
Equipment and. And where to use them, until they can start constructing or assembling
basic, complicated circuits.

In our daily lives, electronic and electrical devices are important. Such devices,
however, require maintenance with the use of hand tools. Terminating or connecting wires and
circuits allows the proper use and selection of hand tools to connect both ends of the cable or
to the terminal of the device.

Imagine that your cell phones are charging and suddenly it stops in the without even giving
50 percent of the battery life. Circumstances like this call for your immediate action and fixing
your charger is the first thing that comes to your mind. What's coming to your mind? Are
there certain considerations you're going to take on?

BASIC ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT AND HAND TOOLS
A beginner needs to learn special hand tools and equipment to deal with electronic and
electrical circuits. In connecting, replacing, securing, equipment and troubleshooting, each of
these hand tools and equipment performs one or more specific jobs.
Common Tools

Side Cutter Pliers – is a tool used to cut or trim

connected wires or terminal leads in the circuit
board.

Long Nose Pliers – is a tool used to hold, bend, and

stretch electronic component and wires.

Flat Screwdriver – is a tool used to fasten and

loosen negative slotted screw.

Philips Screwdriver- is a tool used to loosen or

fasten the cross head slotted screw.

Soldering Pencil – is an electronic hand tool used to

connect two or more metal conductors with melted
of soldering lead.

Desoldering Tool – is an electronic hand tool used
to unsoldered undesirable parts or device in the
circuit with the soldering pencil.

Basic Electronic Equipment

Multi-Volts Power Supply – is an electronic

equipment used to provide the direct current
voltages in the circuit.

Multi-tester – is an electronic equipment used to

measure resistance, current and voltage.

Portable Electric Hand drill – is an electronic

equipment that makes a hole in the plastics chassis
or metal chassis.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Electrical cable termination is the physical and cable end link that leads to a separate
cable or to a component terminal. Cable terminations are designed to allow two cable ends, or
a cable end and a tool terminal, to be physically and electrically connected. Whether it requires
installing new electrical gear or rewiring, the specifications for a standardized and reliable
electrical connection are the same. You would like the right wire, fittings, and a range of
inexpensive hand tools.

Types of wire joints & splices

In making wiring connections at home, you can need to make wire joints and splits.
There are kinds of wire splits and joints. Also prior to soldering, a successful wire splice or joint
will be secured. The welding would act as additional protection and also corrosion prevention
in the joint. Electrical tape for protection should also be enclosed with splices and joints in solid
wire.

It's best to be extremely careful when dealing with electricity. It is very important to take
into account the risks when splicing wires, especially if the component consists of high

voltages. Switch the power off, including the fuse, wear gloves, never work near water, and
always check your job before turning back on the electricity. Learn to terminate the given
electrical splices and joints given in the following illustrations:

Western union short tie- is formed

by twisting tightly, the two ends of a wire
together. Next, use needle-nose pliers to twist
both ends tightly at least five turns.

Rat tail joint- is made by connecting two or

more wires and wrapped them symmetrically in
a common axis.

Knotted tap joint -is made by connecting a

branch wire to a continuous wire. Take out about
1 inch of insulation from the main wire and 3
inches from the branch wire.

Fixture joint - This joint need five inches of

insulation stripped off the wire. The wires are
twisted a few times with a pair of pliers for the
joint to be tight.

SOLDERING
Soldering is a method in which the filler metal has a lower melting point than the
adjoining metal by melting and inserting a filler metal into the joint (usually solder or soldering
lead) by connecting two or more things together.

Soldering Process
For effective and efficient soldering, cleanliness is essential. The solder should not bind
to dusty, greasy, or oxidized surfaces. In heated metals, oxidation is very quick. To extract soil,
oxides, scales and grease, the use of appropriate solvents and chemicals is essential. Prior to
the actual soldering task, connections to be soldered should be washed.

Before making a mechanical connection, objects to be welded should typically be

"tinned". Tinning is the coating of a light layer of solder on the substance to be soldered. A thin,
even layer of flux should be applied over the surface to be tinned when the surface has been
properly washed. While the component is heated to the soldering temperature, this will avoid
oxidation. In electrical work, rosin-core solder is typically favored. Instead, however, a different

rosin flux can be used. As wires are tinned in cable manufacturing, separate rosin flux is
commonly used
