WHAT IS IT

INPUT DATA INTO COMPUTER

The computer is an electronic device that is programmed to accept data (input),

yt

process it and generate result (output). A computer along with additional hardware and
db

software together is called a computer system. The computer system is composed of a central
processing unit (CPU), memory, input/output devices and storage devices. All these
te

components work together as a single unit to come up with the desired output. A computer
es

system comes in different forms and sizes. It varies from a personal desktop, laptop, tablet
aT

computer, or even a smartphone.

In the generation today, there are lots of changes and developments that had
ph

happened. Data plays a vital role in delivering quality education to our leaners especially
Al

during these times of crisis. Data refers to a collection of facts or measurements that can be
used for reasoning purposes and discussions digitally.

Have you ever wondered as to how data or information gets into the computer
and how it comes out in a form that we can use? Well, it is only made possible by our so-
called devices.

What is a DEVICE?

Device is defined as the components or peripherals found and attach to the

computer to enter the data and get the desired output. (e.g., mouse, keyboard, printer,
monitor etc.)

Types of Devices

INPUT DEVICES – a device that can be used in entering data and instruction to the computer

ly
On
such as keyboard, optical input devices, audio input devices, video input devices and pointing
devices.

m
OUTPUT DEVICES- these are used to receive data/ information from the computer either

ea
hardcopy or softcopy like printer, monitor, projector, and audio output.

tT
These devices are of great help and integral components in inputting data into

en
the computer. It acts as the medium between the user and the machine in the communication
process then, without these devices no operation can be as effective as it should be.

m
op
At this part, get know what Input is and how to enter data not the computer.
l
INPUT- is a task where data is coded or converted into machine in readable form so it can be
ve

processed through a computer.

De

Ways in inputting data into the computer:

he

CODING VERIFICATION STORING

te

symbols. accuracy.

• Coding- This is where you encode or type your gathered data.

es

• Verification- The state of checking the accuracy of the encoded information/data.

aT

• Storing- The step in which the verified data/ information is stored and kept to a certain
ph

location of your computer for future access.

Al

In inputting data, here are some typing techniques that will help you most:

Typing is a physical activity, and using a keyboard requires skill, hence the need
to learn correct typing technique. Unskilled ('hunt and peck') typists are particularly at risk of
Occupational Overuse Injury because they:

often use only one or two fingers which may overload the finger tendons.

are constantly looking from keyboard to screen to keyboard, which may strain neck muscles.
often adopt a tense posture (wrists bent back and fingers 'poised to strike').

Speed of keying

The efficiency and speed of modern computers makes it possible for a skilled
operator to type extremely quickly. This capability reinforced by workload pressures means
the potential exists for operators to key at speeds which may cause or contribute to

ly
Occupational Overuse Syndrome.

On
Computer Workstation Ergonomics

m
In using computer improperly/ irregularly may lead to various health problem

ea
such as stress, eyestrain, and injuries to the wrists, neck, and back.

tT
Computer ergonomics is the discipline of matching the task to the worker using
the most appropriate equipment to optimize human well-being and overall performance.

en
Consideration should be given to:
The accessories required to operate properly
m
op
The layout of equipment on the desk
The location of furniture in the room
l

Work surface height

De

Well- adjusted height of the work surface and/or the height of the chair allows
your elbows to be bent at 90 degrees, forearms parallel with the floor, wrist straight, shoulders
he

relaxed.
yt

Chair
db

Adjustment of the seat tilt makes you comfortable when working on the
keyboard. Usually, this will be close to horizontal, but some people prefer the seat tilted slightly
te

forwards. The footrest height must allow your knees to be bent at 90 degrees. Then, the height
es

of the footrest may need to be adjustable. Adjust the backrest so that it supports the lower
back when you are sitting upright.
aT

Placement of the Keyboard

ph

Keyboard should be placed in a position that allows the forearms to be close to

the horizontal and the wrists to be straight. If this causes the elbows to be held far out from
Al

the side of the body, then re-check the work surface height. Remember and be careful not to
have the wrist extended or bent in an up position.

Placement of the Screen

Always set the eye to screen at the distance that permits you to focus on the
screen easily. Set the height of the monitor so that the top of the screen is below eye level and

the bottom of the screen can be read without a marked bend of the head. Usually, this means
that the center of the screen will need to be near shoulder height. Eyes must be level with the
tool bar. People who wear lenses or eyeglasses will need to get a balance between where
they see out of their lenses and avoid too much neck flexion.
Layout of the Desktop
Feel comfortable and place all controls and task materials within a comfortable
reach of both hands so that there is no unnecessary twisting of any part of the body.
