SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATE

Qualification Title COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING NC II

COC 1 Title INSTALL AND CONFIGURE COMPUTER SYSTEMS

Time Allotted 2 HOURS

1. Given the necessary components, testing instruments, tools and equipment, you are
required to install and configure computer systems in two (2) hours based on the
following tasks:

A. Disassemble and Assemble Computer Hardware

Given a functional PC/Laptop unit, tools, and equipment, disassemble the


component parts and list the parts, including the capacity and brand name. Then,
assemble again the computer component parts carefully so as not to damage any.
Follow the OHS policies and procedures to prevent any damage to the parts,
devices, equipment and yourself.

Duration: 20 min.

B. Configure the BIOS and test the assembled unit to check whether it will boot
or not.

Duration: 10 min.

C. Prepare Installers

C.1 Create a bootable USB flash drive


C.2 Prepare the drivers for installation
C.3 Prepare the application software for installation

Duration: 15 min.

D. Install Software

D.1 Install the given OS (Microsoft Windows/Server 2008)


D.2 Install the Linux OS
D.3 Install the drivers
D.4 Conduct Test

E. Install Application Software

E.1 Install MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, etc.)


E.2 Install Utilities (Anti-virus)
E.3 Install from Repository (Linux as open source)
E.4 Test the assembled computer unit. Identify and remedy any faults and problems
to ensure the unit functions within the specifications. Perform measurements of
the output. Record the analysis of problems/faults/failures in the forms provided
by the assessor. Call the assessor for the final testing.

Duration: 30 min

2. The assessment shall be based on the unit of competency in the Training Regulations
and the Evidence Plan, and shall focus on the evidence gathering methods.

COC 2 Title SET UP COMPUTER NETWORKS
Time Allotted 2.5 HOURS

1. Given the necessary components, testing instrument, tools and equipment, you
are required to set up computer networks in two and a half (2.5) hours based on
the following tasks:

A. Perform network cabling management/arrangement

Duration: 30 min.

B. Perform network cable splicing (straight-through cable) at most 16


pieces RJ45

Duration: 30 min.

C. Setup network configuration


Test the network (SOHO networks/ AD HOC networks)

Duration: 15 min.

D. Setup router/Wi-Fi/Wireless
Create wireless network with security

Duration: 15 min.

E. Setup internet connection sharing

Duration: 10 min.

F. Setup wireless access point

Duration: 30 min.

G. Setup firewall, Quality of Service (QOS), MAC authentication

Duration: 10 min.

H. Conduct test

Duration: 10 min.

2. The Assessment shall be based on the unit of competency in the Training


Regulation and the Evidence Plan, and shall focus on the evidence gathering
methods:

COC 3 Title SET UP COMPUTER SERVERS

Time Allotted 1.5 HOURS

1. Given the necessary materials, testing instruments, tools and equipment, you are
required to set up and test computer servers in one and a half (1.5) hours based on the
following tasks:

A. Create Peer-to-Peer Networks


Create share folder permission

Duration: 10 min.

B. Configure Network Server

B.1 Install and Configure Active Directory (Domain Controller)

Duration: 20 min.

B.2 Install and Configure Domain Name Services(DNS)

Duration: 20 min

B.3 Install and Configure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

Duration: 10 min.

B.4 Install and Configure Filer Server

Duration: 10 min.

C. Configure Remote Desktop

Duration: 10 min.

D. Configure File and Printer Sharing (Folder Redirection)

Duration: 10 min.

E. Perform Testing of Networks and Documentation

Duration: 5 min.

NETWORKS
Time Allotted 1.5 HOURS

following tasks:

A. Maintain and Repair Computer Systems and Networks

A.1 Prepare materials needed for maintenance

Duration: 5 min.

A.2 Evaluate or diagnose problems

Duration: 5 min.

A.3 Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance

Duration: 20 min.

A.4 Create backup or system image

Duration: 10 min.

A.5 Restore backup or system image

Duration: 10 min.

A.6 Check and test computer systems and networks for safe operation

Duration: 10 min.

2. The assessment shall be based on the unit of competency in the Training Regulations
and the Evidence Plan, and shall focus on the evidence gathering methods.
