SUMMARIZATION OF THE LESSON MIDTERM TO FINALS

CSS IN THE ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY

Computer System Servicing (CSS) and its importance in the electronics industry. It also emphasizes how
technology is increasingly making everyday operations easier, and how computers have become a great driver for
innovation. Thus, CSS forms an essential tool for giving technology assistance and services including computer
repairs and maintenance. The course career opportunities for CSS graduates, computer assemblers, service
technicians, and network technicians, point out to the importance of getting a CSS NC II qualification in building
a career in IT. Technicians would be expected to have good problem-solving skills and knowledge in hardware
and software and communicate well with the clients. Physical endurance is also required since the job requires
lifting heavy parts and long hours of standing. The usefulness of CSS also extends in making people's lives better
in the sense that they get real technical support and effective productivity. CSS professionals deal with individual
and organizational technology needs through practical skills and knowledge. An activity and homework wrap up
the lesson, asking students to reflect on the broader impacts of CSS on society. Lesson 2: Occupational Health
and Safety (OHS)

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

The OHS focuses on the prevention of accidents, illness, and injury by identifying potential hazards and
applying control measures through a three-step process: hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control.
Hazards are dangerous objects that include things such as knotted wires, uneven piles, and noise. Risk assessment
examines the potential for injuries or harm due to potential hazards, including the extent of the danger. Proper
training and no heavy lifting without assistance are good practices. Common hazards include physical (slippery
floors), mechanical (unsafe equipment), chemical (toxic substances), and electrical (shocks) hazards. For
unfamiliar equipment, employees should first look for supervision and training before its use. Precautions such
as turning off devices and removing ornaments can minimize risks in the computer servicing scenario. The
existence of workplace safety and efficiency is ensured by observing the guidelines in OHS. Lesson 3:
Implementing Quality Standards

APPLYING QUALITY STANDARD

Standards determine the rules and specifications for dimensions, materials, and performance for
consistent quality. Customer satisfaction increases when standards are followed, and customer satisfaction has a
direct effect on revenue and profit. Quality checking is necessary while buying, assembling, repairing, or
maintaining computer systems. Upon receipt of materials, standard procedure requires thorough checking of all
documentation, specifications, and overall condition. Inventory forms are then used to record PC components and
their specifications following disassembly. Descriptions of items, specifications, and any remarks are written
down for clarity. Organizations can use customized forms, yet record-keeping is vital in ensuring quality
assurance. Normal checking ensures that the materials meet the desired standards and performance. Through these
processes, technicians ensure reliability and customer trust in their service provision. Quality control is
synonymous with successful computer systems management and customer satisfaction.

ANALYTICAL ENGINE & TYPES OF COMPUTER

It begins by recognizing the contribution of Charles Babbage whose designs sowed a seed for the modern
computer. This lesson will address the evolution from the very simple early mechanical devices, such as the
Analytical Engine, to the first digital computers like the Atanasoff-Berry Computer, and Colossus. Along the way,
computers were improved with memory operating systems, programming languages, and much more. The lesson
will classify computers into general-purpose and special-purpose types, explaining their versatility and efficiency
differences. General-purpose computers perform a range of tasks but are not very efficient, while special-purpose
computers specialize in certain applications. Another division is analog, digital, and hybrid. Each of these
computer types is suited for different data types and processes. Analog computers work with continuous data like
speedometers. Digital computers handle binary data and can be found in personal computers. Hybrid computers
combine both and speed and accuracy are usually seen in medical devices like electrocardiograms. Comparing
them can be done during activities because they all play a role in technology. It ends with a hands-on project
where students are to make and test network cables, applying practical skills in CSS.

COMPUTER CONCEPT, HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND PEOPLEWARE

A computer is defined as "an electronic device that manipulates information or data through processing
and storing." Discuss computer speed, accuracy, and versatility. The course describes the advancement of
computers from manual-mechanical devices, such as the abacus, to contemporary microcomputers and
supercomputers through six generations of development. Some important milestones within this line of
development are the early electronic devices like ENIAC and transition to integrated circuits. The hardware
component of the equipment is further elaborated with regard to the internal and external parts, such as the CPU,
motherboard, and storage devices. Numerous input, output and communication devices are also covered,
highlighting their functions in data processing and networking. Lesson 5 continues to develop an understanding
of software types, including the system, application, and programming software as well as distinguishing their
distinct purposes. Middleware, which facilitates communication between various software applications is
presented. Finally, the topic of Peopleware addresses the important role of people within the IT system, from
development through network administration, focusing on their impact on how technology may be best used.

BASIC HARDWARE COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM

The ports are the physical docking points through which the peripherals such as monitors, keyboards and
mouse are connected into the systems. For instance, there is the USB port, VGA port and Ethernet port whose
specific functions relate to the connection of devices to the system. Expansion slots like PCI Express and AGP
support the addition of graphics or network cards. The critical processing components are held within the sockets
on a motherboard such as CPU and CMOS. Peripheral cables such as SATA, HDMI, and FireWire are used for
data transfer and for transmitting power. Particularly underlined is the USB 3.0 port, introduced to offer faster
data transfer. It explains how these parts interact to achieve effective functioning. Properly installed, serviced
hardware parts are essential for efficient performance. Users become able to expand and troubleshoot computer
systems using knowledge of these elements.

HAND TOOL AND EQUIPMENT

Electrostatic equipment-anti-static wrist straps, mats, and so on are essential for eliminating electrostatic
discharge. Hand tools-essential hand tools include pliers, precision screwdrivers, crimping tools, for the
manipulation and assembling of components. LAN testers and wire strippers can ensure that connection cables
are properly connected and wires are prepared well. Cleaning tools, such as compressed air and lint-free cloths,
help maintain a system free from dust and smut. Diagnostic equipment such as the digital multimeter and the
loopback adapter is used for identifying and solving technical problems. The desoldering tool replaces and repairs
a component, while the brushes with magnifying glasses are useful in cleaning and inspecting small components.
Organizing storage using parts organizers and cable ties enables efficiency in space for use. These tools
collectively ensure safe and precise computer maintenance and repair.

BASIC PC TROUBLE SHOOTING

Basic PC troubleshooting starts with recognizing common causes of system failure, including overheating,
dust buildup, and faulty hardware. Preventive measures play a major role in maintaining system health, such as
ensuring proper ventilation in order to avoid overheating, regular cleaning to prevent dust from building up, and
using good quality components to reduce the risk of hardware failure. Users are generally encouraged to operate
computers in stable environments away from extreme temperatures or humidity. The need to protect against power
surges is emphasized using surge protectors, and the importance of regular backups for crucial data is especially

noteworthy in preventing data loss due to unexpected system failure. Hardware problems require careful
procedures when solving: such as checking physical connections and interpreting beep codes when the computer
starts, testing individual parts like RAM, CPU, and motherboard for problem isolation. This includes loose
connections or incompatible memory sticks, which often require reinstallation or replacement for RAM-related
issues. In troubleshooting, hard drive errors are errors such as low disk space, missing operating system messages,
and corrupted files-explained with step-by-step solutions like freeing up storage, repairing boot configurations,
or using recovery tools. Video and monitor-related issues are usually blamed on faulty lines or video cards that,
apparently, may be malfunctioning, causing symptoms like a blank screen, flickering, or distorted imagery. To
troubleshoot, one may reseat cables, update drivers, or test with an alternate monitor or graphics card. Sound
diagnostics involve resolving driver conflicts, checking for disabled audio settings, and usually testing audio
devices like headphones or USB speakers to pinpoint the problem. Problems with input devices such as a keyboard
or mouse not responding, or a sticking key condition, are diagnosed by checking for connection ports, cleaning,
and driver update. The importance of a methodical approach-to note symptoms, establish the source cause, and
apply solution remedies-is further underscored throughout. This allows for effective troubleshooting with
problems efficiently solved to minimize potential re-occurrences, thus giving users the confidence to take care of
PC troubleshooting.
