Creative Commons is a non-profit organization headquartered in San Francisco that offers free legal tools to allow creators to publish their works under more flexible copyright terms than standard, all rights reserved copyright. This allows for public sharing, reuse, and remixing. They do this for two main reasons: 1) In the digital world, every use of a work is a copy, implicating copyright law in a way that is different than in analog media. 2) Prior to 2002, there was little between public domain with no rights reserved and all rights reserved copyright. Creative Commons licenses help fill this gap. [/SUMMARY]
