PERFORMANCE TEST

Specific Instruction for the Candidate

Qualification COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING NCII

Unit of Competency SET-UP COMPUTER NETWORKS

General Instruction:
You are task in upgrading a small office's network infrastructure due to
frequent connectivity issues and slow internet speeds. The task involves
replacing old network cables, design and implement a network solution to
connectivity issues. Efficiency, minimal disruption, use personal protective
equipment (PPE) effectively, and compliance are key priorities. You need to
complete the project effectively and deliver a high-quality network solution.

Specific Instruction:
1. Material Identification:
Begin by identifying the appropriate materials required for network cable
installation based on the specific requirements of the project. This includes
cables, connectors, tools, and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
effectively to adhere in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies
needed for the installation process.
2. Cable Crimping:
Once the materials are gathered, proceed with Twisted Pair Cable Splicing to
terminate the ends of the network cables with connectors. Use a cable
crimper tool to securely attach the connectors to the cable ends, ensuring
proper connectivity and signal transmission.
3. Network Cable Installation:
With the cables properly crimped, proceed to cable patching. Ensure that
cables are routed efficiently and securely, taking into account factors such
as cable length, bend radius, and potential sources of interference.
4. Connectivity Testing:
After installing the network cables, conduct thorough connectivity testing to
verify proper signal transmission and connectivity between network devices.
Use testing devices such as cable testers to check for continuity, shorts, and
other potential issues that may affect network performance.
5. Cable Management Inspection:
Once connectivity testing is completed and verified, inspect the cable
management to ensure neatness, organization, and compliance with
installation standards. Check for proper cable routing, bundling, labeling,
and securing to prevent cable damage and maintain an orderly network

environment.
6. Final Verification:
Before concluding the installation process, perform a final verification of all
installed cables, connectors, and cable management practices. Ensure that
all connections are secure, properly labeled, and documented for future
reference.
7. Documentation:
Document the completed installation, including details such as cable routes,
connector types, testing results, and any relevant notes or observations.
This documentation serves as a reference for future maintenance,
troubleshooting, and expansion of the network infrastructure.
