Let Us Discover

General Safety Tips and Reminders

Safety practices should be learned early and always adhered to in working with any
electrical and electronic device, including personal computers and its peripherals. This is for
protection as well as to the people working with and for the devices that are using it.

Observe good housekeeping in the area of the equipment during and after
maintenance or repair. Place removed covers and other parts in a safe place, away from all
personnel, while you are servicing the equipment.

Dress for the Job

Keep your tool case away from walk areas so that other people will not trip over it.

Do not wear loose clothing that can be trapped in the moving parts of an equipment. Ensure
that your sleeves are fastened or rolled up above your elbows. If your hair is long, tie it up or
use a hair net or hair cap.

Electrical Safety

Electric current from power, telephone and communication cables are often hazardous. To
avoid personal injury or equipment damage, disconnect the attached power cords,
telecommunications systems, network and modems before you open the server/workstation
covers, unless instructed otherwise in the installation and configuration procedure.

Precautions!

Disconnect all power before;

Performing a mechanical inspection;

Working near power supplies;

Removing or installing main units.

Before starting work on the equipment, unplug the power cord.

Never assume that power has been disconnected from a circuit. First, check that it
has been powered off.

Always look carefully for possible hazards in your work

Moist floor

Non-grounded power extension cables

Power surges

COMPUTER SYSTEM TESTING AND INSPECTION

TEST THE HARDWARE COMPONENTS

Before testing the hardware components, make sure that the power cable is plugged in
properly. Some computer systems have several cables, so check if every plug is secure.

Below are some devices that must be inspected for possible errors or problems.

1. Computer monitor and its peripherals

a. Monitor and its interface cable
b. Video card
c. Monitor power cable
2. Keyboard and Mouse
a. Keyboard connector
b. Mouse connector
3. Input/ Output ports and devices
a. Connection cable between the I/O port and peripheral device
b. Setting in the CMOS/BIOS setup program
c. C/O port on the motherboard

4. Power Supply
a. Power cord
b. Fuse
c. Switch (if the power supply have own power controller)
Note!: After the inspection, shut down and restart the computer system and double-check all
inspected and tested hardware components.

TEST THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS

1. Operating System
a. Run live updates of the operating system to get the latest patches and updates
(Note: Think wisely if your OS is a crack version or NOT genuine do not RUN live
updates!)

2. Application Software
a. Check the latest updates
(Note: Make sure that application software is licensed!)

3. Antivirus Software
a. Run an antivirus program
b. Check for spyware updates
