What’s In
You were introduced with all the required knowledge and skills on the
installation of computer devices and OS. Now, after executing the proper
procedures I am sure that installation may be a very easy task for you. Those
skills are going to be very essential for the following lesson. In this lesson you
will learn conduct test and documentation.
What’s New
Direction: Use the clues below to fill in the crossword puzzle with the correct
words. Write your answers in your notebooks.

A toner probe is a two-part tool. The toner part is connected
to a cable at one end using specific adapters, such as an RJ-
45, coaxial, or metal clips. The toner generates a tone that
travels the length of the cable. The probe part traces the
cable. When the probe is in near proximity to the cable to
which the toner is attached, the tone can be heard through a
speaker in the probe.
Software Tools
Like hardware tools, there are a variety of software tools that can be
used to help technicians pinpoint and troubleshoot problems. Many of these
tools are free and several come with the Windows operating system.
System File Checker (SFC): A command-line tool that scans the operating
system critical files and replaces files that are corrupted.
monitor. Note:
Test Results:
a) If you see any of the above check cable signals, that mean the
problem is not related to your monitor, please check your graphics
card. If you see the first figure with one of the colors missing, that
means your monitor requires service.
b) If you are unable to see any of the figures. But the light of the monitor
is on, it means your monitor requires service.

Right-click on the listing for your computer's keyboard. Select the "Scan for
Hardware Changes" option from the menu. The Device Manager will now test
your computer's keyboard. If an "error" icon appears next to the listing, there
is a problem with your computer's keyboard. Right-click the listing for the
device again and select "Properties" for more information about the specifics
of the error.
Problems in the RAM can cause “Blue Screen of Death” (BSOD) and
can even prevent your machine from booting up. If you want to test your
RAM, you can use Memtest86+ and again, the test itself isn’t that simple.
In order to perform it, you will need to create a bootable USB or CD with the
software loaded into it since the test itself works upon boot up and it will take
over 30 minutes to complete. If you want to really test the RAM of your

computer or the one that you want to purchase, you can simply head to the
Memtest86+ website to read the instructions.
The Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or Solid State Drive (SSD) contains the
operating system that is installed on your computer and once it gets some
problems, you whole machine may hang and freeze often or even fail in the
long run. It is therefore important to make your HDD/SSD in 100% health
always.
For HDD, you will need to use a separate tool called HDSentinel. This
tool is designed for Hard Disk Drives and helps to identify problems,
diagnoses troubles and repairs disk drive problems before they get worst. To
download this software, you can simply visit the official Hard Disk Sentinel
website.

5.Test CPU and GPU
The CPU and GPU are two very important hardware components in
every computer that is involved in the main processing of data, commands
and everything else in between. It is because of these two hardware
components that you are able to use Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel and
even open your favorite browser. You are also able to play games because of
them so it is therefore necessary to make sure that both of these hardware
components are in perfect condition. To test them, you can use Furmark.

Test Hardware to Prevent Serious Problems
As you can see, there are both online and offline ways in testing your
computer’s hardware and both methods help ensure that your machine is in
good condition. These tests will also help you decide if a pre-loved computer
is worthy to be purchased on not
USE CAUTION HERE (Though you’d only be shocked with a max of 24 volts)
Plug the power supply into the wall.
Find the big 24-ish pin connector that connects to the
wire.
The power supply’s fan should start up. If it doesn’t then it’s dead.
If the fan starts up, then it could be the motherboard that’s dead. You can use a
multimeter to check if there is power output from the power supply
Testing Your Software
Check the different software installed in the computer.
1. Operating system
Run live updates for your operating systems to get the latest
patches and protection for your OS.
Run registry scanners to check the OS registry configuration

Firmware Testing
1. First, it will check all the basic components including among other things
the system clock, the processor, RAM, the keyboard controller and the
Video
2. After the video has been tested the BIOS will then indicate any errors
encountered by displaying either a numeric code or a text message on the
screen. When a device fails the first part of the POST, the BIOS will send a
series of beeps from the PC's speaker (internal) to inform the PC user that
11 NegOr_Q4_CSS11_Module1-4_V2
there is a problem these beeps are coded allowing the user to diagnose the
troublesome component. When the POST has been completed successfully,
the PC will make a short beep to let the user know everything is as it
should be.
