I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of concepts and principles in installing configuring computer systems.
B. Performance Standards: The learners shall be able to install and configure computer systems based on established procedures and system
requirements.

C. Learning Code: TLE_IACSS9-12SUCS-IIIa-e-37, TLE_IACSS9-12SUCS-IIIa-e-37, TLE_IACSS9- 12SUCS-IIIa-e-37

Competencies/Objectives: At the end of 60-minute discussion, the learners must be able to:

the Lesson 1. Explain the peer-to-peer and client-server network.
2. Enumerate the advantage and disadvantages of peer-to-peer and client-server network.
3. Recognizes the importance of creating a workgroup in setting up networks.

C. Presenting One of the basic skills that you must acquire in computer system servicing is to independently learn the fundamental
Examples/Instances of knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to set-up computer servers for LANs and SOHO systems. It consists of competencies to
the Lesson set-up user access and configures network services as well as to perform testing, documentation and pre-deployment
procedures.

D. Discussing New Concepts A Computer Network is a group of connected computers that allow each other to make resources available to other
and Practicing New Skills computers. A client computer must have an operating system that allows it to share its resources. The compute can have
#1 Microsoft Windows, Linux, or apple, etc. Below are the 2 of most common use in computer Network;
1. PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK - This type of network is where two or more computers are connected without needing a file
server to be part of the network
E. Discussing New Concepts
and Practicing New Skills
#2
Advantages
 No need for a network operating system.
 Does not need an expensive server because individual
workstations are used to access the files.
 If one computer fails it will not disrupt any other part of the
network. It just means that those files aren't available to
other users at that time.

Disadvantages
 Because each computer might be being accessed by
others it can slow down the performance for the user.
 Files and folders cannot be centrally backed up.
 Files and resources are not centrally organized into a
specific ‘shared’ area.
 There is little or no security besides the permission.

2. CLIENT-SERVER NETWORK - With a client server network the files will not be stored on the hard drive of each workstation.
Instead, they will be stored on a specialized computer called a server. A server is designed to efficiently provide data
to a remote client

Page 2
Advantages
 All files are stored in a central location.
 Network peripherals are controlled centrally.
 Backups and network security is controlled centrally.
 Users can access shared data which is centrally controlled.

Disadvantages
 A specialist network operating system is needed.
 The server is expensive to purchase.
 Specialist staff such as a network manager is needed.
 If any part of the network fails a lot of disruption can occur.

F. Developing Mastery Activity 1 – “LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE”
