correct and change the underlined word/s if false.
1. ODD means Ordinary Disk Drive. _________________________________________
2. The Hard Disk Drive is also known as HDD. _________________________________
3. The Power Supply convert the power to AC to DC. ___________________________
4. Hard Disk is the secondary storage of the computer.___________________________
5. Floppy Disk Drive was replaced by the flash drive nowadays. ___________________
6. Sata Connector is the power connector that give supply in the motherboard. _______
7. The Power Supply is the hardware component that supplies power to an electrical device
______
8. A power connector that used to power the hard drive and optical drive are the 24 pin
molex connector. _________________________________
9. Printed Circuit Board is the one holds all the circuitry to connect the various components
of a computer system. ____________________________
10. The P4 connector is a 12V power supply cable used with motherboards that have an
Intel Pentium 4 or later processor. _________________________________
TOPIC 2: MOTHERBOARD
Objectives
1. Identify the use of Power Supply
2. Recognize the significant of Power Supply
3. Demonstrate the steps in connecting the power supply cables to different
drives and mainboard
7
LEARNING CONTENT
PROCESSOR SOCKET
It is the centrepiece of motherboard
and were the CPU is installed.
POWER CONNECTOR
Allows an electrical current to pass
through it for the exclusive purpose
of providing power to a device.
MEMORY SLOTS
Allows computer memory (RAM) to be inserted into the
computer. Depending on the motherboard, there will usually
be 2 to 4 memory slots (high-end up to 8 memory slots) and
are what determine the type of RAM used with the
computer.
8
VIDEO CARD SLOT
The slot that enable the user to add the
adapter card for additional function to
the system.
NORTHBRIDGE
It coordinates the flow of data between the CPU,
graphics card, and RAM.
SOUTHBRIDGE
The other one, handles all of the computer’s
input/output functions.
FRONT PANEL
It is where the connectors of hard disk
drive activity lights, case speaker,
reset button, power on/off button,
computer power on light, and key lock,
are connected to make them function
smoothly.
9
REAR CONNECTOR
The portion of the motherboard that allows
you to connect external devices, such as
your monitor, speakers, keyboard, and
mouse.
ACTIVITY 1
Direction: Draw your own aesthetic design of motherboard showing the complete
parts of it. Ask for the help of one of the member of the family.
ACTIVITY 2
Direction: Give the importance of lesson in the parts of motherboard.
IMPORTANCE
OF THE LESSON
IN
MOTHERBOARD
10
CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING 2
Directions: Identify the statements below. Write your answers in the space provided.
11
LEARNING ACTIVITY
Ports - External connecting sockets on the outside of the computer. This is a
pathway into and out of the computer. A port lets users plug in outside peripherals,
such as monitors, scanners and printers.
Cables - A cable is most often two or more wires running side by side and bonded,
twisted or braided together to form a single assembly, but can also refer to a heavy
strong rope.
12
LAN (Local Area Networking) Port - A physical
interface often used for terminating twisted pair
type cables used to connect computers onto a
local-area networks (LAN), especially Ethernet
RJ-45 connectors
13
Power cord is the most important cord because it
connects the computer to the main source of
electricity to make it functional.
Activity 1
Direction: Given the different cables, identify their functions as well as the part of
computer system each one supports.

7. Parallel port are also called as printer port.
8. Parallel port is used to mouse and older camera.
9. The meaning of LAN is Local Access Networking.
10. Speaker port is intended for plugging in the speaker or headset.
REMEMBER
In order to perform the skills in ICT-CSS, you need to be familiar in the different
internal hardware inside the computer system.
Those internal hardware has their own functions and purposes to make the computer
system works. The students should be also be familiar about the different ports and what
cable and connector will be used.
